Our values.

Our values guide the way we act, serve communities and carry out each of our interventions with integrity, accountability and respect for human dignity.

01
OUR FIRST VALUE

Love of Others

It means placing the dignity, well-being and protection of human beings at the centre of all our interventions. Every person must be treated with respect, compassion and consideration, regardless of their origin, sex, age, social situation, beliefs or physical condition.

MERU is committed to being attentive to the needs of vulnerable people and communities affected by crises, conflicts, displacement and disasters. The organization promotes an attitude of listening, solidarity and compassion towards the people it supports.

Love of others also means serving communities with selflessness and professionalism, without exploiting their vulnerability or seeking personal benefit through the assistance provided.

02
OUR SECOND VALUE

Transparency and Accountability

It means managing resources, information, activities and decisions in an honest, clear and understandable manner. Every staff member is expected to act with integrity and provide accurate information about the activities for which they are responsible.

Accountability means that MERU and its staff must be able to account for their decisions, actions, use of entrusted resources and the results achieved. The organization recognizes its responsibility towards beneficiary communities, partners, donors, relevant authorities and its staff.

MERU ensures that its financial, material and human resources are used in accordance with the objectives for which they were mobilized. Any abusive, fraudulent or personal use of the organization's resources is contrary to this value.

03
OUR THIRD VALUE

Commitment and Responsibility

Every staff member must perform their duties with seriousness, professionalism, punctuality and diligence. They must respect agreed deadlines, internal procedures, administrative and financial rules, as well as legitimate instructions from their supervisors.

Every staff member must take responsibility for the consequences of their professional decisions and actions. Everyone is expected to account for their work, inform their supervisors of difficulties encountered and seek appropriate solutions when an obstacle prevents an activity from being carried out. MERU places particular importance on honouring commitments made to communities.

Staff must not make unrealistic promises or commit the organization beyond its mandate, resources or capacities. Commitments made must be realistic, clearly communicated and honoured to the extent of the organization's capabilities.

04
OUR FOURTH VALUE

Justice, Equity and Gender

Decisions must be made on the basis of objective criteria and in accordance with established rules, without favoritism, discrimination, corruption or abuse of power.

MERU takes into account people's different circumstances and specific needs in order to ensure that everyone has a genuine opportunity to benefit from its interventions. Treating people equitably does not necessarily mean giving everyone exactly the same thing, but rather taking their needs and vulnerabilities into account in order to promote fair and inclusive participation.

MERU recognizes the importance of gender integration in its programs and internal operations. Women, men, girls and boys may face different needs, responsibilities, risks and constraints, particularly in humanitarian and crisis contexts. These differences must be taken into account in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of interventions.

MERU is committed to promoting equal opportunities for women and men and preventing all forms of discrimination based on sex. The organization also seeks to promote the participation of women and men in decisions that affect their lives and communities.

MERU works to combat all forms of discrimination, harassment, exploitation, abuse and violence, including gender-based violence. Every staff member must contribute to maintaining a respectful, inclusive and safe professional and community environment for all.
